Neighborhood Security

Croatan has organized a Neighborhood Security Program to help keep our community safe.   It is based on the premise that communication is our biggest ally in fighting crime.

Croatan Civic League members and residents contribute the neighborhood security fund.  George Horvath takes care of the hired off duty Police Patrol. The number of hours of  patrol service varies based on the contributions and the time of the year. The off-season schedule which runs from September to May. While the patrol does not eliminate all of our problems, it significantly reduces problems such as speeding, vandalism, and parking problems.  Master Police Officer Don Noha  and his team want to make sure that these patrols are meeting your needs and giving you a good return on your Security Fund Contributions.  Notify Officer Noha by email (DNoha@vbgov.com ) of your specific concern(s) including description with day(s) and time(s). Please copy me at GHorvath@vbgov.com   For residents who are frequently away and would like for the Officers to conduct periodic home checks, notify Officer Noha.  They will make every effort to address your concerns as part of their patrol activity.  If you do not have email capability, contact me, George Horvath at 233-0019.  I will pass the concerns to Officer Noha for you.

Maria Kania works very hard as our liaison to the Second Precinct.  She attends the monthly Citizens Advisory Council at the Second Precinct as our good will ambassador and our voice when we need to be heard.  She will send out an Alert to everyone in Croatan on the email list if a crime is committed or if one can be averted by vigilance.  Please  contact Maria by email at mkania@hotmail.com if you witness something. She can only report what is reported to her.

Residents are encouraged to call the police if they witness any suspicious activity.

  • In the event of an emergency call 911

  • In the event of a non-emergency call 385-5000

  • In the event of Animal Control Problems call 311
